Whitemud Creek - what a lovely place

Time To Read: 1 minute

Edmontonians are so blessed and lucky to have the river valley

There’s so many places in Edmonton that are accessible via our trails and pathways. One of them is river valley. Specifically - Whitemud creek.

The creek is easy to get to, and lots of exit points, so there’s no worries about getting stuck.

It can be accessed from many places. As you can see from the map below, the creek is quite expansive and lots to explore. This post is a small slice of what’s there.

Whitemud Creek from Brookside

For this bike trip, I took the entrance from the Brookside neighbourhood route. From there it’s a little steep to get into the creek, but the journey’s worth it. As of July 2020, there was a part of the pathway that was washed away/being repaired, but there’s enough room to go around on bike or on foot.

The ride is great because it’s a gravel path, so no mud parties. Although there’s dirt paths that branch off, if that tickles your fancy. The scenery sure feels like it belongs somewhere else. Safe to say, it’s breath taking.

The trees are tall enough to form a nice canopy. It’s nice and shady, so heat wave or not, it doesn’t feel like it.

From what I saw, lots of things to keep kids entertained with the best of Mother Nature. Whoever took the time to post the interpretive plaques. Bravo! Very informative.

Down side - lots of mosquitoes. Come prepared or if you’re riding, keep pedaling.

My trip was fairly short, the next few times, I plan on exploring the snow valley side of the trail and see where that takes me.

Happy Exploring.
